Key Stage 5 Curriculum
The Carlton Academy Sixth Form offers a wide range of A Level courses, alongside a number of BTEC Level 3 qualifications, to post-16 learners.
All students are expected to choose three courses, which they will study for two years (the exception being students who study 3 A Levels plus Further Mathematics).
There will be mock examinations in the summer term of Year 12, with courses being assessed regularly through classwork, homework and independent coursework. It is an expectation that all Year 12 students pass their mock examinations in order to progress into Year 13.
A Level courses are assessed by 100% examination at the end of Year 13.

Sixth form students, who have not achieved at least a grade 4 in either GCSE English or Maths, are expected to continue to study towards securing a 4 in these qualifications during their time in the sixth form.
In addition to the curriculum offer, the Sixth form has an extensive pastoral and careers guidance programme, including UCAS application support for those students wishing to progress to university. All sixth form students have a tutor, with whom they have daily contact with.
All Year 12 students are expected to take part in a week-long Work Experience in the summer of Year 12.
There is also a very popular and extensive Leadership programme running through the sixth form to develop the leadership skills of post-16 learners.
Students are given a number of study periods, where they are expected to work independently and make use of our fantastic sixth form study centre.
