Improvement Priorities

We constantly evaluate what we do and identify ways in which we can improve further.  Our core purpose is raising academic achievement and everything we do is directly linked to this.

Each year, we identify our specific focus areas and develop a detailed school improvement plan which outlines exactly what we want to achieve and how we will go about making it happen. This is not a full list of everything we do but highlights the key priorities. As part of this work, we produce a summary which you can view below.

At the end of each review cycle, we also undertake an evaluation of our previous targets - these are colour coded for quick reference in terms of progress we believe has been made and are reported to Governors three times a year. Items in red are ones that we do not feel we have made enough progress on or have not yet started, amber is where progress is good and will be continued and green is where we feel that very good progress has been made and we are embedding these aspects into academy life.

School Development Plan 2026-27

Academic Achievement

We believe that all students should have the support and encouragement needed to achieve their very best academic performance. They should leave school with the formal qualifications they need to pursue their dreams. We believe that this is the biggest driver of social mobility in our society.

  1. To renew the focus on our Core Purpose of all students achieving their best academically at KS4 & KS5
  2. To further embed assessment and feedback strategies to close achievement gaps for all students

High Expectations

Our academies provide an environment in which high expectations are the norm. We encourage our students to be the best they can be. We are determined to support all students in achieving their true potential, whatever their background or starting points.

  1. To ensure the Positive Behaviour Culture is consistent across all areas of the academy
  2. To continue to develop our rewards and  behaviour intervention programme
  3. To ensure that new strategic operational developments don’t negatively impact on day-to-day teaching and learning

Widening Student Experiences

Our academies all promote activities that build our students’ resilience, respect for staff and self-confidence. These include participation in sport, the performing arts, trips abroad, cultural experiences and character-building challenges. Our ‘Pledges’ system ensures that every student benefits from these important opportunities.

  1. To further track and develop the co-curricular offer to engage more students to attend from a wider range of groups
  2. To review and amend our work-related learning curriculum
  3. To further develop the cultural capital of Carlton students

Outstanding Teaching

Excellent teaching is the bedrock of an effective academy. We invest in the professional development of our teachers as a priority. Best practice is shared through networks, coaching and conferences. Our training programmes cater for teachers from their first year through to executive leadership.

  1. To develop all our teachers’ effective use of adaptive teaching to help our students achieve more
  2. To develop the foundational knowledge of our students
  3. To provide opportunities for CPD and career progression for teaching staff

Equality and Diversity

We build school communities based on equality and a sense of personal responsibility. Every student and member of staff at Redhill has an equal right to be successful. We have established the Redhill Equality Commission to ensure that all members of our community are treated equally, fairly and with respect.

  1. To further develop Post-16 ethos and culture
  2. To continue to develop the Carlton Culture of belonging for staff, students and parents
  3. To develop and strengthen support staff teams across TCA through targeted professional development and succession planning
