Year 11 students celebrate record GCSE results at The Carlton Academy

Highest results in the Academy’s history

Year 11 students at The Carlton Academy, are celebrating today as their hard work and determination has resulted in record results.  Luca Bordea, Tober Khalid, Jeevan Dunkel and Yiming Zang all achieved 10 Grade 9s and one Grade 8, the highest results in the school.

Overall, nearly 20% of students achieved a 9-7 in English and Maths, with 53% achieving a 9-5 and 71% achieving 9-4, all the highest results in the Academy’s history. There were plenty of other successes too with Belle Bacon achieving 8 Grade 9s and 3 Grade 8s and Dylan Laing achieving 5 Grade 9s, 4 Grade 8s and a Level 2 Distinction.  Abbey Turnbull balanced preparation for British Swimming Nationals, where she achieved a top 5 national position, with her exam preparation and came away with a brilliant set of 7s, 8s and 9s.  Tiffany Asumang, Freya Graham, and Thomas Martin all achieved 11 Grades 7 or higher.  Equally impressive were the results of Scarlett Brennan (8 GCSEs in total, all Grade 4 or above).  Scarlett has battled leukaemia and has never wavered in her commitment, drive and determination to achieve what were amazing results, a truly humbling achievement.

Many of these students will now be joining our Sixth Form in September to study subjects ranging from History and English to Art and Health and Social Care.

Gary Hillyard, Head of School, said: “I am so proud of the achievements of our students.  Their tireless effort and resilience has resulted in amazing successes and has set them up for their next steps.  It has been such a pleasure to celebrate these results with students and parents today and I know that these success will continue into the future.”
