Governance at The Carlton Academy

The Governing Body provides strategic direction for The Carlton Academy and helps drive improvements in standards, by:

  • Setting targets
  • Setting policies to achieve the targets
  • Monitoring results

Much of the work is carried out directly during Governors' meetings.

In addition, work concerned with the Academy's finances, staffing and premises is conducted by the Governors' Business Committee. Specific Governors have a role in supporting and monitoring areas of academy work, including safeguarding, curriculum, teaching & learning and standards.

Each year we elect a Chair and Vice Chair of the Local Governing Body. They are supported in their work by a Clerk to the Governors who advises on points of procedure and law and minutes meetings. We represent all with an interest in education:

  •  Parent Governors elected by parents;
  •  Staff Governors elected by staff; and
  •  Co-opted Governors appointed by the governing body.

The current Chair of Governors is Mr Steve Mathers - he can be contacted via school - please contact Mrs S Wall, (Head's PA) if you wish to contact the Chair of Governors.
