Extension & Achievement

This programme is open to all students in the academy and has a rich history of providing a wide variety of experiences and events. Established in 2016, the programme aims to give students the opportunity to engage in a yearlong project that will see them form new relationships with their peers, undertake enriching activities to support the development of life skills and widen cultural experiences.

As part of the E&A activities, students have to have good attendance (min 95%) and a positive behaviour record in school. We actively promote this programme to all students and specifically more disadvantaged students as part of our wider engagement work. As part of the programme, students are expected to:

  • read a book that is given to them as part of the work
  • attend in school workshops run by staff and visiting speakers around specific themes and activities
  • undertake work outside of the formal slots that enables them to engage fully in the next calendared activity

Examples of workshops have included Barclays Life Skills, and access to additional qualifications through The Princes Trust. In addition, students have taken part in cultural enrichment activities including new language skills and historical/cultural presentations, in preparation for trips abroad or to areas with different cultures.

In return for high levels of engagement, students have the opportunity to access  a range of trips and visits that are part of the programme. Trips have included:

  • New York
  • Warner Brother Studios (Harry Potter World)
  • Rome
  • Berlin
  • York University
  • Holocaust Centre, Laxton
  • Theatre visits to Nottingham
