Culture at The Carlton Academy

Culture is what it feels like to be a member of our school community. Every individual, students and staff contribute to our culture every day. Culture is what people who visit our school would see, hear and experience and what they would tell others about our school. Our culture is very important to us.

We are very proud of our culture as it is one of:

  • opportunity for all
  • high expectations and aspirations of everyone
  • successful young people and professionals
  • achievement and contunued development for all
  • respect and tolerance for others
Our students are given a wealth of opportunities to thrive in our school, both in the classroom and through a wide range of other activities such as, but not limited to those below:
In order to provide such an extensive curriculum and wider offer, our students follow some tight routines in what we do and how we do them, these provide structure and a climate in which every young person can achieve and where each adult can do their job to the very best of their ability. Listed below are key documents that outline a number of key things that we ask all students to follow and the reasons why. We encorage all students and parents to read these together:
  • Home Academy Agreement - the agreement between school, student and parent in the roles that we play in contributing to our culture
  • Code of Conduct - how we expect every student to conduct themselves in our community
  • Student behaviour and routines - expectations on how students do things in a wide range of activities and most importantly the reasons why. We also have a version of this document for staff to follow in their own work
  • Red Lines - the non negotiables for staff working with students
  • Presentation to students on all of these areas - used in our assemblies and referred to in tutor time and all that we do
